To: Friends of Flora Macdonald Highland Games

After considerable thought and discussion, most of the people involved in the staging of the Flora Macdonald Highland Games each year have decided it is time to bring an end to this event.

Our decision is not based upon our own organization’s financial situation. One of the contributing reasons is the apparent declining interest in Highland Game activities. As you may know, Highland Games have now proliferated in recent years to where one, on most any weekend, may find several Games scheduled.

We feel like the Flora Macdonald Highland Games have been able to hold its own, but it has become harder each year to amass the financial resources to have the Highland Games. The increasing cost to stay competitive, along with trying to add new activities to make them interesting to younger people, are just a couple of factors that present problems.

Our event being located in a smaller community, has resulted in a major obstacle of trying to attract a sufficient number of volunteers each year for the necessary manpower to carry on the event.

We will always cherish the many friends we have made over the past 34 years. It has truly been our pleasure having you be a part of our activities. We trust everyone will have many good memories of these past years when we met on the field of the historic Flora Macdonald campus in early October.

Sincerely,

Tommy Ammons
